About Land Rover cars

What began with the launch of a rugged off-road model in 1948 has, over the decades that followed, evolved into a premium brand worshipped and admired the world over. The first Land Rover hit the roads in the aftermath of the Second World War, and immediately became a hit. A squared-off, function-over-form all-terrain machine which would later become known as the Defender, it evolved into Series II form - but remained the company's only civilian model.

That was until 1970 when the Range Rover made its debut. At the time, the world hadn't seen anything like it: a luxurious yet purposeful four-wheel-drive car that looked equally at home cruising city streets as it did ploughing through rutted forest trails. Little did they know, Land Rover had invented what we now call the luxury SUV - a whole new class of cars.

From that point on, Land Rover didn't look back, continuing to move the Range Rover further upmarket and producing other, more road-friendly models like the Discovery - though off-road performance remained outstanding.

More recently, the manufacturer launched the Evoque and Discovery Sport, which focus almost entirely on style and road-going finesse. The flagship Range Rover remains a tour de force off the beaten track, though.

Land Rover Discovery

Only the second civilian model to wear the Land Rover badge, the Discovery arrived in 1989 to bridge the gap between the Series III Land Rover and the Range Rover. It was much more than a mid-range filler model, though: Land Rover really pushed the boundaries with the Discovery's design, the car winning a British Design Award in the year of its introduction. Today, the Discovery is a cornerstone of the Land Rover range, offering a winning combination of safety, practicality, luxury and performance - both on and off-road.

Land Rover Discovery Sport

Replacing the immensely popular Freelander, the Discovery Sport still offers seven-seat practicality but is more affordable to own than its full-size stablemate. Though it sits below the Discovery in the range, the cabin's still brimming with technology and its ride remains composed. If you don't need to go off-road as often but need seven seats, the Sport is a worthy choice.

• Four-wheel drive means the Sport can tackle light off-roading duties, though it can't pull off the same feats as the Discovery

Range Rover

There's no shortage of superlatives you could use to describe the Range Rover. It really is a mightily impressive vehicle, able to transport five adults in extreme luxury over extremely rough terrain. Think of it as a Mercedes S-Class on stilts; Range Rover occupants are treated to near-unparalleled levels of comfort and high-tech infotainment and travel in style no matter where they go. If you want the last word in go-anywhere opulence, you want a Range Rover.

Range Rover Evoque

‘Smash hit' doesn't even begin to describe the Evoque's success. Launched in 2011, it's flown out of the showrooms ever since, and it's not hard to see why. For starters, its styling was way ahead of its time - it still looks like a new car today - and it made Range Rover ownership more accessible than ever before. Add more affordable running costs and a generous helping of practicality into the mix and you have a fantastic all-rounder.

Range Rover Sport

Unlike the full-size Range Rover, it's available with seven seats too. While not quite as luxurious as its bigger brother, the Sport is more agile and has imposing, aggressive styling to match.

Our Admin Fee covers the following, a 114 point mechanical check, a minimum 6 months MOT and Service, Full HPI & Experian provenance check, a new set of fitted metal number plates and electronic DVLA registration for your new vehicle. Retail customers pay £199. Retail customers arranging finance using brokers outside of our immediate panel of lenders pay £499.

Methods of payment - Debit and Credit card payments are accepted up to the value of £500. On balances over £500 we only accept bank transfers.
